Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 2468 — The virtue of concealing an affliction

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Part of the perfection and completeness of righteousness and goodness is that the calamities and hardships that befall one are concealed (and one does not complain by disclosing them)."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad (2468). Its chain contains a narrator named Zafir bin Sulayman, whose memory the hadith scholars have criticised; however, the meaning of the hadith fully accords with the Islamic principles of patience and contentment.
