It is narrated from Abbad that he said: It was related to me that when Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) entered Bayt al-Maqdis, he said (this supplication / talbiyah): 'Labbayk Allahumma labbayk' (Here I am in Your court, O Allah, here I am).

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "I did not hear from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (while he was calling out the talbiyah) anything except these words: 'Labbayk Allahumma labbayk, labbayk la sharika lak, innal-hamda wan-ni'mata lak' (Here I am, O Allah, here I am; here I am, You have no partner; indeed all praise and blessings are Yours alone). And I did not hear him (peace and blessings be upon him) mention Hajj or Umrah (in the talbiyah)."
Imam Mujahid relates that Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) used to add this phrase to these words: "And the dominion too is Yours; You have no partner."
I (Ibn Hajar, the compiler) say: This narration is narrated in the Sahih, through Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) herself, with this addition (that is, the word 'al-mulk'), but her statement that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not mention Hajj or Umrah is not found there.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most virtuous Hajj is 'al-'ajj' and 'al-thajj'; 'al-'ajj' means raising the voice (with dhikr and the talbiyah), and 'al-thajj' means shedding the blood (of the sacrifice)."
In the narration of Imam Abu Ya'la a further explanation is reported, that 'al-'ajj' means calling out the talbiyah, while 'al-thajj' means sacrificing camels in the path of Allah.
