It is narrated from Muhammad bin Yahya bin Habban that the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I had forbidden you from three things, and now I have permitted them to you: I had forbidden you from preparing nabidh (in certain vessels), so now prepare nabidh, and (remember that) every intoxicant is unlawful; and I had forbidden you from storing the meat of the sacrificial animals for more than three days, so now eat it yourselves and also store it (for later); and I had forbidden you from visiting the graves, so now visit them, but do not utter any improper or vain words (there)."
Imam al-Harith bin Abi Usamah recorded this hadith in his Musnad (Bughyat al-Bahith: 835).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Batha when suddenly he (peace and blessings be upon him) rose in a state of joy and gladness and went towards the graveyard, and sat down by one of the graves there. Then, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) came back to us, he was extremely sad and grieved. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, you just rose from us cheerful, but now that you have returned, sadness has come over you?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I asked my Lord's permission to visit my mother's grave, and He granted me permission," or he said: "So I was granted leave; then I went to intercede for her, but I was prevented from it."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this narration in his Musnad; however, its chain contains Amr bin Husayn the judge, who is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith), and Farqad al-Sabakhi is also weak in memory; on this basis this narration is weak in its chain.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) and Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) that both of them heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "That I should sit on a burning ember until it burns through my clothing and its heat reaches my very skin is dearer to me than that I should sit on a grave."
Uthman bin Hakim said: I saw Kharijah bin Zayd (may Allah have mercy on him) in the graveyard and mentioned this saying to him; he (to explain it in practice) sat me down on a grave and said: "Indeed, this (severe warning) is only for the one who sits on a grave and defiles it (that is, relieves himself there)."
