It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Batha when suddenly he (peace and blessings be upon him) rose in a state of joy and gladness and went towards the graveyard, and sat down by one of the graves there. Then, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) came back to us, he was extremely sad and grieved. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, you just rose from us cheerful, but now that you have returned, sadness has come over you?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I asked my Lord's permission to visit my mother's grave, and He granted me permission," or he said: "So I was granted leave; then I went to intercede for her, but I was prevented from it."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this narration in his Musnad; however, its chain contains Amr bin Husayn the judge, who is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith), and Farqad al-Sabakhi is also weak in memory; on this basis this narration is weak in its chain.
