It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) and Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) that both of them heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "That I should sit on a burning ember until it burns through my clothing and its heat reaches my very skin is dearer to me than that I should sit on a grave."
Uthman bin Hakim said: I saw Kharijah bin Zayd (may Allah have mercy on him) in the graveyard and mentioned this saying to him; he (to explain it in practice) sat me down on a grave and said: "Indeed, this (severe warning) is only for the one who sits on a grave and defiles it (that is, relieves himself there)."
