It is narrated from Imam al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was greatly concerned about the call (adhan) for the prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked striking a bell (naqus) as the people of Makkah did. So when the time of prayer came, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would send some men who would call out and inform the people, but this work kept them themselves occupied (and away) from the prayer. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zayd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) returned home affected by this concern of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then in a dream someone came to him and asked: "Why are you concerned?" He said: "Because of the concern of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." The one who came said: "Go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and tell him to have the call to prayer given with these words: 'Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah (twice), ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah (twice), hayya 'ala al-salah (twice), hayya 'ala al-falah (twice), Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illallah' (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah (twice); I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (twice). Come to the prayer (twice); come to success (twice). Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; there is no god worthy of worship except Allah)." Then he told him to place the like of these words between the adhan and the iqamah as well. Abdullah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of this, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Teach these words to Bilal."
Meanwhile Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said: "I too saw exactly the same dream that Abdullah bin Zayd saw, but Abdullah got there before me."
This narration is mursal and its chain is sahih (authentic), and it is an excellent supporting report (shahid) for the hadith of Ibn Ishaq recorded in the Sunan.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan for Zuhr while Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was staying in Makkah, and he raised his voice very loudly as soon as the sun passed its zenith. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said (out of kindness): "O Abu Mahdhurah, did you not fear that (by calling so loudly) the delicate membrane of your belly would burst?" He replied: "(O Commander of the Believers,) I wanted to let you hear my voice." At this Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'When the heat becomes intense, perform the prayer at a cooler time (by delaying it), for the intensity of heat is from the raging of Hell. Hell complained (to its Lord) until one part of it began to consume another part, so it asked Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, for permission to take two breaths, and that was granted to it. So the intensity of heat is from the heat of Hell, and the wave of severe cold is from its coldness.'"
Imam al-Bazzar narrated it. He said that al-Fadl bin Sahl and Ahmad bin al-Walid narrated this same narration to us through Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Makhzumi, and he also said: We know this narration as marfu' (attributed to the Prophet) from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) only through this chain, and Muhammad bin al-Hasan is "munkar al-hadith" (his narrations are rejected).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Kathir bin Murrah al-Hadrami (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The first being who gave the adhan in the heaven was Jibril (peace be upon him)." Then Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with them both) heard this adhan. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about what he had heard; then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and he too informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about what he had heard. the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Bilal, Umar has got ahead of you; now give the adhan just as you heard it."
The narrator said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to put his two fingers in his ears, so that by this act he would be helped in raising his voice more.
