بَابُ مُؤَذِّنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Chapter: The muezzin of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 227 — The muezzin of the Prophet ﷺ

قَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، ثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُؤَذِّنَانِ ، أَحَدُهُمَا بِلَالٌ ، وَالْآخَرُ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْأَصَمِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا .
227 \ 2 - قَالَ أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلَّادٍ ، ثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بِهِ .
[3] رَوَاهُ أَبُو قُرَّةَ الزُّبَيْدِيُّ فِي سُنَنِهِ مِنْ طَرِيقِ مُوسَى بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ بِهِ سَوَاءً ، وَزَادَ : وَكَانَ بِلَالٌ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يُؤَذِّنُ بِلَيْلٍ يُوقِظُ النَّائِمَ ، وَكَانَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَتَوَخَّى الْفَجْرَ فَلَا يُخْطِئُهُ ، وَكَأَنَّ عَبْدَ الْعَزِيزِ بْنَ الْأَصَمِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى هَذَا هُوَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ، وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ .
227 \ 2 - قَالَ أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلَّادٍ ، ثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بِهِ .
[3] رَوَاهُ أَبُو قُرَّةَ الزُّبَيْدِيُّ فِي سُنَنِهِ مِنْ طَرِيقِ مُوسَى بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ بِهِ سَوَاءً ، وَزَادَ : وَكَانَ بِلَالٌ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يُؤَذِّنُ بِلَيْلٍ يُوقِظُ النَّائِمَ ، وَكَانَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَتَوَخَّى الْفَجْرَ فَلَا يُخْطِئُهُ ، وَكَأَنَّ عَبْدَ الْعَزِيزِ بْنَ الْأَصَمِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى هَذَا هُوَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ، وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had two mu'adhdhins (callers to prayer): one of them was Sayyiduna Bilal and the other was Sayyiduna Abd al-Aziz bin al-Asamm (may Allah be pleased with them both)."
Imam Abu Nu'aym said: Abu Bakr bin Khallad narrated this hadith to us from al-Harith with the same chain.
Also, Abu Qurrah al-Zubaydi narrated it in his Sunan through Musa bin Ubaydah in the same way, and added: "Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give the adhan at night to wake those who were sleeping, while Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) paid particular attention to the break of dawn and did not err in recognising the time." From this indication it appears that Abd al-Aziz bin al-Asamm (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned here is in fact Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him). And Allah knows best.
