Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One who adopts moderation does not become needy."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Their chains contain Ibrahim bin Muslim al-Hajari, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How excellent is moderation in prosperity! How excellent is moderation in poverty! How excellent is moderation in worship!"
Al-Bazzar recorded it as a narration of Sa'id bin Hakim from Muslim bin Habib. I have not found anyone who mentions this Muslim, except that Ibn Hibban mentions him in the biography of Sa'id, the one who narrates from him. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was walking along with us in Makkah while he was fasting, and the fast was hard on him. We milked a she-camel of ours for him into a bowl, and then, to honour the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the breaking of his fast, we mixed honey into it. When the sun set, we presented the bowl to him. When he tasted it, he gestured with his hand to ask: What is this? We said: Milk and honey; we wanted to honour you with it. (The narrator says: I think the narration has these words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "May Allah Almighty honour you as you have honoured me." Or he (peace and blessings be upon him) said some other words of supplication like it. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever adopts moderation, Allah Almighty makes him self-sufficient; whoever is wasteful, Allah Almighty makes him poor; whoever is humble, Allah Almighty raises him; and whoever is arrogant, Allah Almighty breaks him to pieces."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains two people whom I know.
