Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever loves the world harms his Hereafter, and whoever loves the Hereafter harms his world. So prefer that which will remain (that is, the Hereafter) over that (that is, the world) which will perish."
Ahmad, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it, and their narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Shurayh bin Ubayd al-Hadrami says: When the time of death drew near for Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: O listeners of the Ash'ar tribe! Let those of you who are present convey this to those who are absent: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The sweetness of the world is the bitterness of the Hereafter, and the bitterness of the world is the sweetness of the Hereafter."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has the love of the world in his heart is afflicted by three things: a misery whose toil never ends, a greed that never reaches contentment, and a hope that has no final limit. The world both seeks and is sought. Whoever seeks the world is sought by the Hereafter, until death comes to him and seizes him; and whoever seeks the Hereafter is sought by the world, until he receives his full provision from it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it from his teacher Jabrun bin Isa al-Muqri', from Yahya bin Sulayman al-Hafari, from Fudayl bin Iyad. I do not know Jabrun. As for Yahya, al-Dhahabi mentioned in Mizan al-I'tidal, at the end of the biography of Yahya bin Sulayman al-Ju'fi: "As for his namesake Yahya bin Sulayman al-Hafari, I know of no harm in him." After that he mentioned Yahya bin Sulayman al-Qurashi; Abu Nu'aym said: "There is criticism of him," and Ibn al-Jawzi mentioned him. If they are two different people, then al-Hafari is thiqah (trustworthy) and the hadith is sahih (authentic) according to the condition of the khutbah, and Allah knows best. The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Huzayl bin Shurahbil says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Whoever intends the Hereafter harms the world, and whoever intends the world harms his Hereafter, and I instruct these people to bear the loss of what is perishing (the world) for the sake of what remains (the Hereafter)." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: "You are in a time in which scholars are many and orators are few, givers are many and askers are few. So lengthen the prayer and keep the sermon short. Indeed, some eloquence is magic. After you there will come a time in which orators will be many, scholars few, askers many and givers few."
Al-Tabarani recorded it with two chains, and the narrators of one of them are the narrators of the Sahih, except Qays.
