Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of greed, for it is poverty itself, and beware of those things for which one has to apologise."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Muhammad bin Abi Humayd, whose weakness is agreed upon.

Jubayr bin Nufayr says: Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) came out to the people and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has ordered you to seek refuge from three things: from greed where there is no room for greed, from greed that leads to a stained character, and from greed where there is nothing to be greedy for."
Al-Tabarani recorded it with several chains; the narrators of one of them are thiqat (trustworthy), though there is disagreement about some of them. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Some hadiths about seeking refuge from greed and other things have already passed at the end of the Book of Adhkar, and in the Book of Supplications, in the chapter on seeking refuge.
