عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِيَّاكُمْ وَالطَّمَعَ ; فَإِنَّهُ هُوَ الْفَقْرُ ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَمَا يَعْتَذِرُ مِنْهُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ ، وَهُوَ مُجْمَعٌ عَلَى ضَعْفِهِ .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of greed, for it is poverty itself, and beware of those things for which one has to apologise."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Muhammad bin Abi Humayd, whose weakness is agreed upon.
