Comprehensive chapter on admonitions

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has distributed character among you just as He has distributed provision among you. Allah Almighty gives the world to the one He loves and also to the one He does not love, but He gives religion only to the one He loves; so whoever Allah Almighty has granted religion, Allah Almighty loves him. By the One in whose hand is my soul, a servant does not become a Muslim until his heart submits to Allah Almighty, and a servant does not become a believer until his neighbor is safe from his harms." The narrator says: We asked: "O Messenger of Allah, what is meant by his harms?" He said: "His deceiving and his oppressing." (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:) "Any servant who earns wealth unlawfully and spends from it, no blessing is placed for him in that wealth; if he gives it in charity, it is not accepted from him; and if he leaves that wealth behind him, it becomes his provision for the journey to Hell. Indeed, Allah Almighty does not erase evil by means of evil; rather, He erases evil by means of good. A foul thing does not erase a foul thing."
Ahmad recorded it; its narrators have been declared trustworthy, though there is disagreement about some of its narrators.

Anas bin Iyad, a narrator, says: Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of committing minor sins, for the example of minor sins is like a people who camp in the low part of a valley; then one man brings a stick and another man brings a stick, until they (burn those sticks and) bake their bread. Likewise, when the one who commits minor sins is taken to account for those sins, they will destroy him." Abu Hazim says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said — Abu Damrah, a narrator, says: I think this narration is reported from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) — (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "My example and that of the Hour is like these two." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this while separating his middle finger and the finger next to the thumb (that is, pointing with these two fingers). Then he said: "My example and that of the Hour is like a man whose people send him ahead to scout the situation; when he fears that (the danger) will reach (his people) before him, he waves his cloth and says: '(Danger) is about to reach you, it is about to reach you.'" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am that person."
Ahmad recorded the whole of it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Banu Hashim! O Banu Abd al-Muttalib! O Safiyyah, aunt of the Messenger of Allah! O Fatimah, daughter of Muhammad! Let me not find that tomorrow (on the Day of Resurrection) people come carrying the Hereafter while you come carrying the world. On the Day of Resurrection, my companions among you will be the God-fearing. My example and yours is like a man who comes to his people and says to them: 'O my people! Danger is about to fall upon your heads! Danger is upon you! I am the warner, death is the one that brings ruin, and the Hour is the promised appointment (that is, the Hour is certain).'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Zakariyya bin Yahya al-Waqqar, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while on his she-camel al-Adba' — not al-Jad'a' — addressed us and said: "O people! (It seems) as though death has been made binding on others besides us, and the truth has become obligatory on others besides us; and the dead (whose funerals) we walk with are on a short journey; then we place them in their graves and consume their inheritance, as though you are going to live forever after them. You have forgotten every admonition, and you consider yourselves safe from every calamity. Glad tidings are for the one whose own faults keep him from finding fault with people, who adopts humility for Allah Almighty without any lowering (of himself), who spends from wealth he earned without disobedience (that is, in a lawful way), who keeps company with the people of knowledge, who stays away from the people of doubt and innovation, whose outward conduct is sound, and who keeps himself apart from people with regard to his own evil (that is, people are safe from his evil)."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains al-Nadr bin Muhriz, and other da'if (weak) narrators besides him.

Sayyiduna Rakb al-Misri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Glad tidings are for the one who adopts humility without any deficiency, who considers himself lowly without any disgrace, who spends wealth that he earned without disobedience (that is, in a permissible way), who shows mercy to the poor and humble, and who keeps company with the people of knowledge and wisdom. Glad tidings are for the one whose earnings are pure, whose inner self is sound, whose outward conduct is honorable, and who keeps people safe from his evil. Glad tidings are for the one who acts according to his knowledge, spends his surplus wealth (in the way of Allah Almighty), and refrains from needless talk."
Al-Tabarani recorded it via Nasih al-Ansi from Sayyiduna Rakb al-Misri (may Allah be pleased with him), and I do not know him (that is, Nasih al-Ansi); the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me something, and let it be brief." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray as though you are about to depart, for even if you do not see Him, He sees you; despair of what is in people's hands and you will be rich; and beware of anything for which you would have to apologize."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains narrators whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with people that they take an interest in the wealthy and look down upon the worshippers? They act upon those rulings of the Qur'an that agree with their desires, and they abandon what goes against their desires. In such a state they believe in part of the Book and disbelieve in part of it. They strive for that which can be attained without striving — that which relates to the decreed destiny, the term that has been written (or made binding), and the provision that has been apportioned — but they do not strive for that which can only be attained through striving — that which relates to the abundant reward, the striving that is accepted, and the trade in which there will be no loss."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Umar bin Yazid al-Raffa', who is da'if (weak).
