وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ : أَتَى رَجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، حَدِّثْنِي حَدِيثًا وَاجْعَلْهُ مُوجَزًا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " صَلِّ صَلَاةَ مُوَدِّعٍ ; فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ لَا تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ ، أْيَسْ مِمَّا فِي أَيْدِي النَّاسِ تَكُنْ غَنِيًّا ، وَإِيَّاكَ وَمَا يُعْتَذَرُ مِنْهُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُمْ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me something, and let it be brief." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray as though you are about to depart, for even if you do not see Him, He sees you; despair of what is in people's hands and you will be rich; and beware of anything for which you would have to apologize."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains narrators whom I do not know.
