Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "O Allah! Indeed I seek Your forgiveness for what I have done before, for what I will do later, for what I have done in secret and for what I have done openly. Indeed, You are the One who brings forward and You are the One who puts back, and You have power over all things."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: A narration from this Companion is mentioned in the Sahih in which the words are: "O Allah! Forgive me for what I have done before" and so on to the end, and here the words are: "O Allah! I seek Your forgiveness."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that Ibn Buraydah said: From al-Ash'ari
this report was narrated to me.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) transmits this as a marfu' hadith: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever says: 'I declare the glory of Allah Almighty along with His praise, I seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty, and I repent to Him,'" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: "these words are recorded just as he said them, and then they are hung upon the Throne. Whatever sin the person who said them commits, no such sin erases these words, until, when that person comes before Allah Almighty, these words will be sealed (and that person will be given their reward)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Malik bin Yahya bin Malik, who is da'if (weak).
