Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Iblis said in the court of his Lord: By Your might and Your majesty, I will continually try to lead the children of Adam astray as long as their souls are in their bodies. The Lord said to him: By My might and My majesty, as long as they keep seeking My forgiveness, I will continually forgive them."
Ahmad recorded it, and Abu Ya'la recorded something similar, but he recorded these words: "I will continually try to lead Your servants astray."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The narrators of one of Ahmad's two chains are the narrators of the Sahih, and the same is true of the narrators of one of Abu Ya'la's two chains.

Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) transmits this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "It is necessary for you to keep saying 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah) and to keep seeking forgiveness, for Iblis has said: I destroy people through sins, and they destroy me through saying 'La ilaha illallah' and seeking forgiveness. When I see them in this condition, I destroy them through their desires, while they think that they are rightly guided."
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Uthman bin Matar, who is da'if (weak).

Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and in it he recorded these additional words: "The people said: O Messenger of Allah! The chain of this report contains a narrator, al-Walid bin Salamah al-Tabarani, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
