وَعَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " عَلَيْكُمْ بِلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، وَالِاسْتِغْفَارِ ; فَإِنَّ إِبْلِيسَ قَالَ : أَهْلَكْتُ النَّاسَ بِالذُّنُوبِ فَأَهْلَكُونِي بِلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَالِاسْتِغْفَارِ ، فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ ذَلِكَ أَهْلَكْتُهُمْ بِالْأَهْوَاءِ ، وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ مُهْتَدُونَ " . رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَفِيهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَطَرٍ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) transmits this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "It is necessary for you to keep saying 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah) and to keep seeking forgiveness, for Iblis has said: I destroy people through sins, and they destroy me through saying 'La ilaha illallah' and seeking forgiveness. When I see them in this condition, I destroy them through their desires, while they think that they are rightly guided."
