عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ ، وَمِنْ قَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ ، وَمِنْ نَفْسٍ لَا تَشْبَعُ ، وَدُعَاءٍ لَا يُسْمَعُ ( اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَرْبَعِ ) " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ يُونُسُ بْنُ خَبَّابٍ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite:
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa du'a'in la yusma' (Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min ha'ula'il-arba')'
(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not fear, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not heard (i.e. not answered; I seek refuge with You from all of these). O Allah, I seek refuge with You from these four things.)
Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Yunus bin Khabbab, who is da'if (weak).

وَعَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْقَسْوَةِ ، وَالْغَفْلَةِ ، وَالْعَيْلَةِ ، وَالذِّلَّةِ ، وَالْمَسْكَنَةِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْفُسُوقِ ، وَالشِّقَاقِ ، وَالنِّفَاقِ ، وَالسُّمْعَةِ ، وَالرِّيَاءِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الصَّمَمِ ، وَالْبَكَمِ ، وَالْجُنُونِ ، وَالْجُذَامِ ، وَسَيِّئِ الْأَسْقَامِ " . قُلْتُ : فِي الصَّحِيحِ بَعْضُهُ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الصَّغِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite:
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wa a'udhu bika minal-qaswati wal-ghaflati wal-'aylati wadh-dhillati wal-maskanah, wa a'udhu bika minal-fusuqi wash-shiqaqi wan-nifaqi was-sum'ati war-riya', wa a'udhu bika minas-samami wal-bakami wal-jununi wal-judhami wa sayyi'il-asqam'
(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from incapacity and laziness; I seek refuge with You from hardness of heart, heedlessness, destitution, humiliation and poverty; I seek refuge with You from sinfulness, discord, hypocrisy, seeking fame and showing off; and I seek refuge with You from deafness, muteness, madness, leprosy and evil diseases.)
(Allamah Haythami says:) I say: part of this report is mentioned in the "Sahih".
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite:
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayn, wa ghalabatil-'aduww, wa min bawaril-ayyim, wa min fitnatid-Dajjal'
(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from being overpowered by debt, from being overpowered by the enemy, from (widowed or divorced) women remaining unmarried, and from the trial of the Dajjal.)
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir, al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Abbad bin Zakariyya al-Surayimi, whom I do not know, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say (i.e. used to make this supplication):
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-kasal, wal-haram, wa fitnatis-sadr, wa 'adhabil-qabr'
(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from laziness, old age, the trial of the chest, and the punishment of the grave.)
Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Qabus bin Abi Zabyan, who has been declared trustworthy, though there is disagreement about him, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Al-Bazzar also recorded it.
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-kasal, wal-haram, wa fitnatis-sadr, wa 'adhabil-qabr'
(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from laziness, old age, the trial of the chest, and the punishment of the grave.)
Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Qabus bin Abi Zabyan, who has been declared trustworthy, though there is disagreement about him, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

وَعَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيمِ ، وَبِاسْمِكَ الْكَرِيمِ ، مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَالْفَقْرِ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُمْ .
Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting: 'A'udhu bi wajhikal-karim, wa bismikal-karim, minal-kufri wal-faqr'
(I seek refuge in Your noble Self and Your noble Name from disbelief and poverty.)

وَعَنْ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ وَالْعَيْلَةِ ، وَمِنْ أَنْ تَظْلِمُوا أَوْ تُظْلَمُوا " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُبَادَةَ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنْ عُبَادَةَ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek refuge with Allah from poverty and destitution, and also (seek refuge with Allah) from wronging others or being wronged."
Tabarani recorded it; the narrator Yahya bin Ishaq bin Yahya bin Ubadah did not hear from Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

وَعَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ : أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ كَانَ يَسْتَعِيذُ مِنْ أَرْبَعٍ يَقُولُ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غِنًى يُطْغِينِي ، وَمِنْ فَقْرٍ يُنْسِينِي ، وَمِنْ هَوًى يُرْدِينِي ، وَمِنْ عَمَلٍ يُخْزِينِي . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَعَوْنٌ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَسْعُودِيُّ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ ثِقَةً ، وَلَكِنَّهُ اخْتَلَطَ . وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ فِي الدُّعَاءِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَوَاتِ حَدِيثُ أَنَسٍ مَرْفُوعًا أَتَمَّ مِنْ هَذَا ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Awn bin Abdullah narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to seek refuge from four things, reciting:
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min ghinan yutghini, wa min faqrin yunsini, wa min hawan yurdini, wa min 'amalin yukhzini'
(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from wealth that makes me rebellious, from poverty that makes me forgetful, from desire that turns me back, and from deeds that disgrace me.)
Tabarani recorded it; the narrator Awn did not hear from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and Abd al-Rahman al-Mas'udi, although thiqah (trustworthy), suffered from ikhtilat (deterioration of memory).

وَعَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ يَوْمِ السُّوءِ ، وَمِنْ لَيْلَةِ السُّوءِ ، وَمِنْ سَاعَةِ السُّوءِ ، وَمِنْ صَاحِبِ السُّوءِ ، وَمِنْ جَارِ السُّوءِ فِي دَارِ الْمُقَامَةِ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ بِشْرِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ الْبَزَّارِ ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make this supplication:
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min yawmis-su', wa min laylatis-su', wa min sa'atis-su', wa min sahibis-su', wa min jaris-su' fi daril-muqamah'
(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from an evil day, an evil night, an evil hour, an evil companion, and an evil neighbour in the place of residence.)
Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Bishr bin Thabit al-Bazzar, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min yawmis-su', wa min laylatis-su', wa min sa'atis-su', wa min sahibis-su', wa min jaris-su' fi daril-muqamah'
(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from an evil day, an evil night, an evil hour, an evil companion, and an evil neighbour in the place of residence.)

وَعَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ : أَنَّ عَوْفَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ خَرَجَ إِلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَمَرَكُمْ أَنْ تَتَعَوَّذُوا مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ : مِنْ طَمَعٍ حَيْثُ لَا مَطْمَعَ ، وَمِنْ طَمَعٍ يُرَدُّ إِلَى طَبْعٍ ، وَمِنْ طَمَعٍ إِلَى غَيْرِ مَطْمَعٍ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِأَسَانِيدَ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحَدِهَا ثِقَاتٌ ، وَفِي بَعْضِهِمْ خِلَافٌ .
Jubayr bin Nufayr narrates: Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) came out to the people and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has commanded you to seek refuge from three things: from greed where there is nothing to hope for, from greed that turns one back to a base disposition, and from greed for what is not to be hoped for."

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) transmits this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Seek refuge with Allah from greed that leads to further greed, from greed for what is not to be hoped for, and from greed where there is nothing to hope for."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded similar reports; its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Amir al-Aslami, who is da'if (weak).

وَعَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ مَعْدِي كَرِبَ الْكِنْدِيِّ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " تَعَوَّذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ طَمَعٍ يَهْدِي إِلَى طَمَعٍ ، وَمِنْ طَمَعٍ يَهْدِي إِلَى غَيْرِ مَطْمَعٍ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الطَّبَّاعِ وَلَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
