Yazid bin al-Had transmits the statement of Isma'il bin Abdullah bin Ja'far: It has reached me
that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no person who is present in a gathering and then, when getting up from it, recites:
'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, la ilaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk' (Glory be to You, O Allah, and all praise is Yours; there is no god but You; I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance),"
(The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "except that whatever (shortcoming) he committed in that gathering is forgiven."
(The narrator says:) I narrated this hadith to Yazid bin Khusayfah, and he said: Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a similar hadith to me from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Ahmad and Tabarani recorded it, and the narrators of both are the narrators of the Sahih.

(Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise is Yours; I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance).
Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "This is an expiation for whatever happens in the gathering."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The expiation for a gathering is that a person, after getting up, recites:
'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, la ilaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk' (Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise is Yours; there is no god but You; I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance)."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, but al-Mu'jam al-Kabir does not have the words "after getting up". The chains of both reports contain a narrator, Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who suffered from ikhtilat (deterioration of memory).

Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We said: "O Messenger of Allah, when we get up from your company, we start talking about the matters of the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you sit in such gatherings in which you fear for yourselves (that some wrong word may have come from you), then recite when getting up:
'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, nashhadu an la ilaha illa anta, nastaghfiruka wa natubu ilayk' (Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise is Yours; we bear witness that there is no god but You; we seek Your forgiveness and we turn to You in repentance)."
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then whatever wrong you committed in that gathering will be wiped away."
