Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out while I was sitting and moving my lips. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Why are you moving your lips?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am remembering Allah Almighty." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of something which, once you have said it, even if you were then to exert yourself night and day (that is, in remembrance), you would not reach it (the reward of what I tell you)?" I said: "Yes, indeed!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite:
'Alhamdulillahi adada ma ahsa kitabuhu, walhamdulillahi adada ma fi kitabihi, walhamdulillahi adada ma ahsa khalqahu, walhamdulillahi mil'a ma fi khalqihi, walhamdulillahi mil'a samawatihi wa ardihi, walhamdulillahi adada kulli shay'in, walhamdulillahi ala kulli shay'in'
"All praise belongs to Allah alone, in number as much as His Book has recorded; all praise belongs to Allah alone, in number as much as is in His Book; all praise belongs to Allah alone, in number as much as the count of His creation; all praise belongs to Allah alone, filling all that is in His creation; all praise belongs to Allah alone, filling His heavens and His earth; all praise belongs to Allah alone, as numerous as all things; and all praise belongs to Allah alone for everything."
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite the words of glorification (tasbih) in the same way, and the words of magnification (takbir) in the same way (that is, recite these words with 'Subhan Allah' and 'Allahu akbar' as well)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it through two routes, and the chain of one of them is hasan (good).
