Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 16874

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me moving my lips. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Abu al-Darda', what are you doing?" I said: "I am remembering Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not teach you something more excellent than your remembering Allah throughout the night along with the day, and more excellent than remembering Him throughout the day along with the night?" I said: "Yes, indeed!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (that is, the words are as follows:)
'Subhan Allahi adada ma khalaqa, subhan Allahi adada kulli shay'in, subhan Allahi mil'a ma ahsa kitabuhu, walhamdulillahi adada ma khalaqa, walhamdulillahi mil'a ma khalaqa, walhamdulillahi mil'a ma ahsa kitabuhu'
"I glorify Allah Almighty, as numerous as His creation; I glorify Allah Almighty, as numerous as all things; I glorify Allah Almighty, filling all that His Book has recorded; and all praise belongs to Allah alone, as numerous as His creation; all praise belongs to Allah alone, filling His creation; and all praise belongs to Allah alone, filling that which His Book has recorded."
Al-Tabarani and al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Layth bin Abi Sulaym, who is thiqah (trustworthy), but he is a mudallis and suffered from confusion (ikhtilat); and it contains Abu Isra'il al-Mula'i, who is hasan al-hadith (good in hadith). The rest of the narrators of both narrations are the narrators of the Sahih.
