Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When I came near Madinah, I made my mount kneel, then I opened my bag and put on my fine garment. Then I entered (the mosque), and at that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon. The people began looking at me intently. I asked the man sitting next to me: "O servant of Allah! Has the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned me?" He said: "Yes! A short while ago he mentioned you in the finest manner." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon, and during the sermon he said: "Through this door (the narrator is in doubt; perhaps these are the words:) through this path, a man will come before you who will be the best of the people of Yemen. Mark well! On his face there will be the trace of an angel's touch." Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: So I praised Allah Almighty for having granted me this.
Ahmad, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat in abridged form, recorded it from the two of them; the narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, except for al-Mughirah bin Shibl, who is thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Damrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day I was sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) together with a group of the Companions, most of whom were from Yemen. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "The best person of Yemen will appear before you from this mountain pass." Every one of them began hoping that it might be someone from his own household. Meanwhile Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared from the pass. He came forward until he greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions with peace, and all of them returned his greeting. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spread out his cloak and said to him: "O Jarir! Sit on this." He sat with them for some time, then got up and left. The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We have seen you treat Jarir in a way we have not seen for anyone else." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! He is the honoured man of his people, and when the honoured man of a people comes to you, then honour him."
Al-Tabarani and al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a group of narrators whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The best person of Yemen will come before you by this path; on his face there will be the trace of an angel's touch." The narrator says: Every one of those present began wishing that the one coming would be from his own family. Meanwhile a rider came to them. When he reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he dismounted from his mount and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took his hand and shook hands with him and took his pledge of allegiance, and he emigrated. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who are you?" He said: "I am Jarir bin Abdullah al-Bajali." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seated him at his side, then passed his blessed hand over his head, his face, his chest and his stomach, until Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) bent forward out of shyness, thinking that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would put his hand beneath his waist-wrap. Meanwhile the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept supplicating for blessing for him and for his offspring. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over his head and his back and supplicated for him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Jarir bin Ayyub al-Bajali, who is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I will pledge allegiance to you upon emigration." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took my pledge and stipulated upon me that I must also act sincerely towards every Muslim, so I pledged allegiance to him upon this as well. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: In the Sahih it is mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) imposed upon me the condition that I must act sincerely towards every Muslim.
Al-Tabarani recorded it through various routes, the narrators of some of which are the narrators of the Sahih.

He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times.
