عَنْ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ : لَمَّا دَنَوْتُ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَنَخْتُ رَاحِلَتِي ، ثُمَّ حَلَلْتُ عَيْبَتِي ، ثُمَّ لَبِسْتُ حُلَّتِي ، ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَخْطُبُ ، فَرَمَانِي النَّاسُ بِالْحَدَقِ ، فَقُلْتُ لِجَلِيسِي : يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، ذَكَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ذَكَرَكَ [ آنِفًا ] بِأَحْسَنِ ذِكْرٍ ، فَبَيْنَا هُوَ يَخْطُبُ إِذْ عَرَضَ لَهُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ وَقَالَ : " يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ - أَوْ مِنْ هَذَا الْفَجِّ - رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَيْرِ ذِي يَمَنٍ ، أَلَا إِنَّ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ مَسْحَةَ مَلَكٍ " .
قَالَ جَرِيرٌ : فَحَمِدْتُ اللَّهَ عَلَى مَا أَبْلَانِي
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ بِاخْتِصَارٍ عَنْهُمَا ، رِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شِبْلٍ ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .
قَالَ جَرِيرٌ : فَحَمِدْتُ اللَّهَ عَلَى مَا أَبْلَانِي
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ بِاخْتِصَارٍ عَنْهُمَا ، رِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شِبْلٍ ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .
Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When I came near Madinah, I made my mount kneel, then I opened my bag and put on my fine garment. Then I entered (the mosque), and at that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon. The people began looking at me intently. I asked the man sitting next to me: "O servant of Allah! Has the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned me?" He said: "Yes! A short while ago he mentioned you in the finest manner." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon, and during the sermon he said: "Through this door (the narrator is in doubt; perhaps these are the words:) through this path, a man will come before you who will be the best of the people of Yemen. Mark well! On his face there will be the trace of an angel's touch." Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: So I praised Allah Almighty for having granted me this.
Ahmad, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat in abridged form, recorded it from the two of them; the narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, except for al-Mughirah bin Shibl, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
