Muhammad bin Ishaq narrates: He is Sayyiduna al-Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Amr bin Tha'labah bin Rabi'ah bin Thumamah bin Matrud bin Amr bin Sa'd bin Zuhayr bin Thawr bin Tha'labah bin Malik bin Hazl bin Qabis bin Ruwaym bin al-Qayn bin al-Hun bin Bahz bin Amr bin al-Haf bin Quda'ah. He was attributed to al-Aswad bin Abd Yaghuth bin Wahb bin Abd Manaf bin Zuhrah because he (al-Aswad) had adopted him as a son and made him his ally. He was a man with a large belly and a wheat-coloured complexion, and he used to dye his beard yellow. He had a raised, long nose. He died in Madinah at the age of seventy, and Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer.

Then he took the sacrificial animal, went and sacrificed it (or as the narrators described it). Sayyiduna al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: No! By Allah! We will not be like the group of the Children of Israel who said to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him): You and your Lord go and both of you fight; we are sitting right here. (Sayyiduna al-Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Rather, we will say:) You and your Lord go and fight; we will take part in the fighting along with you both. (The narrator says:) Then he sacrificed the sacrificial animal at Hudaybiyah. Qatadah narrates: At that time they had seventy camels with them.
