Qatadah bin Di'amah states: Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was married to Utbah, the son of Abu Lahab. When Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told Utbah to divorce Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) also demanded this of him, so he divorced the lady. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) married Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), and Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away while married to him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Zuhayr bin al-Ala', whom Abu Hatim declared da'if (weak) and Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy), so its chain is hasan (good).

Al-Zubayr bin Bakkar states: The daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Ruqayyah, was married to Utbah bin Abi Lahab. He divorced the lady, then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) married Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) in Makkah. Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) emigrated with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to the land of Abyssinia. Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) bore him a son, Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) took his kunyah from this son. Then Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) came with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to Madinah. Because of Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) could not take part in the Battle of Badr; this was by the permission of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) a share along with the shares of the people of Badr. He said: "O Messenger of Allah! And my reward?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will receive the reward as well."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and part of it is reported from al-Zuhri; the narrators of both reports up to the ones who said them are thiqat (trustworthy).

Al-Zubayr bin Bakkar states: The daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Umm Kulthum, was married to Utbah bin Abi Lahab; he was the man who was devoured by a lion. This man divorced the lady. When Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away while married to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her) to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyidah Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away while married to him, and she did not bear Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) any child. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him): "Even if I had ten daughters, I would have married them to you (one after another)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and it is munqati' (broken) in its chain. The account of Utaybah bin Abi Lahab divorcing this lady has already passed in the book on the Maghazi, in the section mentioning the harm the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) suffered from the polytheists, and part of it has also passed in the virtues of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
