Al-Zubayr bin Bakkar states: The daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Umm Kulthum, was married to Utbah bin Abi Lahab; he was the man who was devoured by a lion. This man divorced the lady. When Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away while married to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her) to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyidah Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away while married to him, and she did not bear Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) any child. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him): "Even if I had ten daughters, I would have married them to you (one after another)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and it is munqati' (broken) in its chain. The account of Utaybah bin Abi Lahab divorcing this lady has already passed in the book on the Maghazi, in the section mentioning the harm the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) suffered from the polytheists, and part of it has also passed in the virtues of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
