Al-Zubayr bin Bakkar states: The daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Ruqayyah, was married to Utbah bin Abi Lahab. He divorced the lady, then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) married Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) in Makkah. Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) emigrated with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to the land of Abyssinia. Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) bore him a son, Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) took his kunyah from this son. Then Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) came with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to Madinah. Because of Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) could not take part in the Battle of Badr; this was by the permission of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) a share along with the shares of the people of Badr. He said: "O Messenger of Allah! And my reward?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will receive the reward as well."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and part of it is reported from al-Zuhri; the narrators of both reports up to the ones who said them are thiqat (trustworthy).
