Shaqiq narrates: Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) met al-Walid bin Uqbah, and al-Walid said to him: Why is it that I see you have turned away from the Commander of the Believers, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him)? Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Convey this message to him from me: that I did not flee on the day of Aynayn (Asim, the narrator, says: this means the day of Uhud), that I did not stay behind from the Battle of Badr, and that I did not abandon the way of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator says: Al-Walid went and informed Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) of this, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: As for his saying that I did not flee on the day of Aynayn, how can he reproach me for a sin which Allah Almighty has pardoned? Allah Almighty has said: "Indeed, those of you who turned back on the day the two hosts met, it was only Satan who caused them to slip because of some of what they had earned, and Allah has certainly pardoned them." As for his saying that I did not stay behind from the Battle of Badr, (the reason in my case was) that I was nursing Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until she passed away; that is why the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted a share for me, and whoever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted a share for is as though he took part in the battle. As for his (that is, Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf's, may Allah be pleased with him) saying that I did not abandon the way of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), neither I have the strength for it nor does he (to follow the way of Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, completely). So go to him and tell him this.
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, al-Tabarani recorded it in abridged form, and al-Bazzar recorded it at length in a similar form. Its chain contains Asim bin Bahdalah, who is hasan al-hadith (fair in hadith), and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him): Stay and look after her, for she must have either me or you with her, and you are more entitled to it. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) behind for her. When Allah Almighty granted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) victory, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) giving him the glad tidings that Allah Almighty had completed their number including you. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Part of it is in the Sahih.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Mujalid bin Sa'id, who has been declared trustworthy despite his weakness, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Urwah narrates: Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed behind in Madinah (at the time of the Battle of Badr) for the sake of the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who was the wife of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him); she was severely ill. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted a share for Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) (from the spoils of Badr). Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! What about my reward? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You will receive your reward too.
Al-Tabarani recorded it.
It is mursal, and hasan (good) in its chain.

Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) to the people of Makkah (at the time of the Treaty of Hudaybiyah). Then he took the Pledge of Ridwan from his Companions, and he took the pledge on behalf of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) by placing one of his two hands on the other. The people said: Congratulations to Abu Abdullah, for he is circumambulating the House in safety! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if he were to stay (in Makkah) for such and such a length of time, he would not circumambulate the House until I have circumambulated it."

Sa'id bin al-Musayyab narrates: Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his voice before Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Why are you raising your voice before me, when I took part in the Battle of Badr and you did not, I gave the pledge to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (at the Pledge of Ridwan) and you did not, and you fled on the day of Uhud and I did not flee? Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: As for your saying that you took part in the Battle of Badr and I did not, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me to stay behind for the sake of his daughter, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also gave me a share and granted me my reward. As for your saying that you gave the pledge and I did not, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent me to the idolaters, and you know this. When I was delayed in returning, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his right hand on his left hand and said: This is for Uthman bin Affan. So the left hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is better than my right hand. As for your saying that I fled on the day of Uhud and you did not flee, Allah Almighty has said: "Indeed, those of you who turned back on the day the two hosts met, it was only Satan who caused them to slip because of some of what they had earned, and Allah has certainly pardoned them." (Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, said:) So why do you reproach me for a sin which Allah Almighty has pardoned?
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good). Another route of it has already passed in this chapter and in other chapters.
