Sayyiduna Hisham bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not permissible for a Muslim to cut himself off from another Muslim for more than three days. As long as the two of them persist in their estrangement, they are deviating from the truth. Whichever of them is first to give the greeting of peace, his precedence in this will be an expiation two thousand times over. If he gives the greeting and the other does not accept it and does not return his greeting, the angels will return the greeting to him, and Satan will answer the other. And if the two of them die in their estrangement, they will never both enter Paradise together."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani recorded it; the narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.
