Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Treating people with courtesy is charity."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Yusuf bin Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, who is matruk (abandoned); Ibn Adi said: I hope there is no harm in him.

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A man asked permission to come in to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "He is a bad member of his clan." But when he came in, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met him cheerfully. Then he left. After that another man asked permission to come in, and he said: "He is a good member of his clan." When he came in, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not show him much cheerfulness and did not treat him as he had treated the first man. When he left, I said: O Messenger of Allah! First so-and-so asked your permission to come in and you said one thing about him, but then you met him cheerfully; and about so-and-so you said something else, but I saw that you did not treat him the way you treated the first man. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aishah! Among the worst of people are those whose obscene speech is avoided." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: part of this report is mentioned in the Sahih.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the people spoke ill of him, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) welcomed him. When the man had gone, he said: "On the Day of Resurrection, the worst person in rank before Allah Almighty will be the one whose evil people fear."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Uthman bin Matir, who is extremely da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man from Quraysh came. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) brought him near and drew him close. When that man got up and left, he said: O Buraydah! Do you know this man? I said: Yes! He is of the noblest lineage among Quraysh and the richest of them in wealth. This exchange took place three times. Then I said: O Messenger of Allah! I have told you what I know about him, but you know better. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is one of those for whom Allah Almighty will not set up any weight on the Day of Resurrection.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Awn bin Umarah, who is da'if (weak).

Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator Ubaydullah bin Amr (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) Ubaydullah bin Umar al-Qaysi, who is da'if (weak). The hadith of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) will come later in the chapter on intellect.

it has already appeared in the chapter on the satisfaction of the zakah collector, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
