عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَقْبَلَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهِ شَرًّا ، فَرَحَّبَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَلَمَّا قَفَا قَالَ : " إِنَّ شَرَّ النَّاسِ مَنْزِلَةً عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، مَنْ يَخَافُ النَّاسُ شَرَّهُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَطِيرٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ جِدًّا .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the people spoke ill of him, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) welcomed him. When the man had gone, he said: "On the Day of Resurrection, the worst person in rank before Allah Almighty will be the one whose evil people fear."
