Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah Almighty has finished with five things for every servant: the appointed time of his death, his provision, his life, the place of his death, and his being wretched or fortunate." In one narration the words are: "and his deeds."
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; the narrators of one of Ahmad's two chains are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Four things have already been settled: outward form and appearance, character, provision and death. No one will earn more than another. He also said: Charity is valid, whether it has been taken into possession or not.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Isa bin al-Musayyab, whom al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) and al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) in al-Sunan declared thiqah (trustworthy), while a group declared him da'if (weak); the rest of its narrators, in one of the two chains, are thiqat (trustworthy).
