Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once we were in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), discussing what is going to happen, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you hear about a mountain that it has moved from its place, then believe it; but when you hear about a man that he has moved away from his particular character, then do not believe it, for he will do what has been placed in his innate nature."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that al-Zuhri did not meet Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him).

Abdullah bin Rabi'ah narrates: We were with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). The people mentioned a man and mentioned his character. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: What do you think: if you cut off his head, would you be able to put that head back in its place? The people replied: No! Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What if you did that to his hand? They replied: No! Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What if you did that to his foot? They replied: No! Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then neither are you able to change his character until you are able to change his physical form. After this the narrator mentioned the full report.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
