Sayyiduna Mahmud bin Labid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When this surah was revealed: "The desire for abundance will make you heedless", the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited it until he reached this point: "Then on that Day you will be called to account for the blessings." The people said: O Messenger of Allah! For which blessings will we be called to account? We have only these two kinds of things, dates and water; our swords hang from our necks and the enemy is right before us, so for which blessings will we be called to account? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They (the blessings) will soon be given (to you).
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqamah, whose narration is hasan (good), though there is weakness in him due to his poor memory; the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
