Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: This verse was revealed: "When the earth is shaken with a tremendous quake." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting there at the time, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: O Abu Bakr! Why are you weeping? He replied: This surah has made me weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you people did not err and did not sin, Allah Almighty would create a nation after you who would err and sin, and then Allah Almighty would forgive them."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Huyayy bin Abdullah al-Ma'afiri, whom Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared thiqah (trustworthy); the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Sa'sa'ah bin Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), the paternal uncle of al-Farazdaq, narrates that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse to him: "Whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it (its reward), and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it (its recompense)." Sayyiduna Sa'sa'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This is enough for me; I do not mind if I hear nothing besides it.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it both mursal and muttasil (that is, in both ways), and the narrators of all of them are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was eating with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when this verse was revealed to him: "And whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it (its reward), and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it (its recompense)." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) withdrew his hand and said: O Messenger of Allah! Will I see the recompense even of the atom's weight of evil that I have done? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abu Bakr! Have you not considered that whatever (unpleasant) thing (or situation) you see in this world which you dislike is in proportion to the weights of evil (that is, it is the recompense for evil), while the weights of good are stored up for you until you are given their full reward on the Day of Resurrection?
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from his teacher Musa bin Sahl; it appears that he is al-Washsha', who is da'if (weak).
