Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates concerning this statement of Allah Almighty (Allah Almighty says): "When believing women come to you as emigrants, examine them; Allah Almighty knows best about their faith." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates: When (such) a woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would make her swear by Allah that she had not come merely out of a desire to move from one land to another; and, by Allah, that she had not come to attain some worldly aim; and, by Allah, that she had come out (of her land) only for the love of Allah and His Messenger.
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Qays bin al-Rabi', whom Shu'bah and al-Thawri declared thiqah (trustworthy) and others declared da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Hadith Takhrij «
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Ahmad (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt emigrated during the period of the truce. Her two brothers, Umarah and al-Walid, both sons of Uqbah, also set out and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They spoke with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about Umm Kulthum, asking that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) return her to the two of them. So Allah Almighty annulled the covenant between the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the polytheists regarding women, and forbade that women be sent back to the polytheists. Then Allah Almighty revealed the verses concerning the examination.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Aziz bin Imran, who is da'if (weak).
