Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a ruling concerning a man who had struck another man in the leg with a horn and wounded him. The wounded man said: "O Messenger of Allah, grant me retaliation." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Do not be hasty until your wound has healed." The man did not accept this and insisted on taking retaliation, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him retaliation against the other man. Then the one who took retaliation became lame, while the one against whom retaliation was taken recovered. The one who had taken retaliation came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, I have become lame, and the other man has recovered." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did I not instruct you not to take retaliation until your wound had healed? You disobeyed me. Now may Allah Almighty distance you; your wound has become void." Then, after the case of the man who became lame, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that whoever suffers a wound must not take retaliation until his wound has healed; when his wound has healed, then he may take retaliation.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A case was brought before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): a man had struck another man on the thigh with the horn (of an animal). The one who had been injured said: "O Messenger of Allah, grant me retaliation." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Treat this wound and wait for it to heal, so that it becomes clear what condition it ends up in." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, grant me retaliation." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said the like of that. The man said: "O Messenger of Allah, grant me retaliation." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him retaliation. The leg of the one who took retaliation withered, while the leg of the one against whom retaliation was taken healed, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared its blood money (diyah) void.

In one narration the wording is: A man wounded another man, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that retaliation be taken from the one who caused the wound until the wounded man had recovered. Al-Tabarani recorded the first narration in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and he recorded one narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Nimran, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left us (that is, when he departed from this world), we were mostly on the move, and none of us could examine a ja'ifah or munaqqilah wound except Amr bin Umayr.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Sa'id al-Baqqal, who is da'if (weak), although he has also been declared trustworthy.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Some hadiths about wounds will come later in the chapter on blood money (diyat), if Allah wills.
