Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever takes charge of anything of the affairs of the people and then keeps himself screened from the weak and the needy, Allah Almighty will screen Himself from him on the Day of Resurrection."
Ahmad and Tabarani recorded it. The narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).

Abu al-Samah al-Azdi reports about his paternal cousin, who was one of the Companions, that once he came to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) and stated: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever takes charge of the affairs of the people and then shuts his door to the poor, the oppressed and the needy, Allah Almighty will shut the doors of His mercy to that person, although he will be in greater need of Allah Almighty's mercy than (any needy or weak person) is in need of it."
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it. I do not know the narrator Abu al-Samah; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) dispatched an expedition of people, and they set out. Abu al-Dahdah came back. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him: Did you not go? He said: Yes, but I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) state a hadith, and I wanted to relate it to you, fearing that I might not meet you afterwards. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "O people! Whoever takes charge of some task and then shuts his door to the needy among the Muslims, Allah Almighty will bar him from entering through the gate of Paradise. And whoever's aim is the world, Allah Almighty will make my neighbourhood forbidden to him, for I have been sent with the ruin of the world; I have not been sent with its building up."
Tabarani recorded it from his teacher Jabrun bin Isa, from Yahya bin Sulayman al-Jafri, and I do not know either of them; the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
