Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) dispatched an expedition of people, and they set out. Abu al-Dahdah came back. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him: Did you not go? He said: Yes, but I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) state a hadith, and I wanted to relate it to you, fearing that I might not meet you afterwards. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "O people! Whoever takes charge of some task and then shuts his door to the needy among the Muslims, Allah Almighty will bar him from entering through the gate of Paradise. And whoever's aim is the world, Allah Almighty will make my neighbourhood forbidden to him, for I have been sent with the ruin of the world; I have not been sent with its building up."
Tabarani recorded it from his teacher Jabrun bin Isa, from Yahya bin Sulayman al-Jafri, and I do not know either of them; the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
