Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The wife of al-Walid bin Uqbah came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Al-Walid has beaten her." Nasr bin Ali, in his narration, reported these words: the woman complained about him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and tell him: 'The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has granted me protection.'" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After a little while, the woman came back and said: "He has beaten me even more." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a piece of his garment and said: "Tell him: 'The Messenger of Allah has granted me protection.'" After a little while, the woman came back and said: "He has beaten me even more." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands and said: "O Allah! Seize al-Walid; he has disobeyed me." He said this twice.
Abdullah bin Ahmad, Bazzar and Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I entered the house of Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him); its door was shut, Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) was inside, and Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) was beating her. Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) was the mother of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I called out from behind the door: "Why are you beating this old woman?" Then Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) called out to me from the other side of the door: "You called me old? May Allah Almighty make your knees feeble!"
