Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 7746

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Some people complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about their wives, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted them to beat those women. That night many women came (to the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: They told of what they had faced. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beat them, but (the narrator is unsure whether these are the words of the report:) the best of you will not beat them."
Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ali bin al-Fadl, who is matruk (abandoned).
