Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The maternal aunt is a mother."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Qays bin al-Rabi', whom Shu'bah and al-Thawri declared thiqah (trustworthy), while a group declared him da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! This son of mine: my womb was a place of protection for him, my lap was a place of rest for him, and my breast was a source of drink for him, and now his father thinks that he will take him away from me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have more right to him as long as you do not marry (again)."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left Makkah, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) brought along the daughter of Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) presented their dispute about this girl before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "She is the daughter of my paternal uncle, and I am the one who brought her." Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "She is the daughter of my paternal uncle, and her maternal aunt is my wife." Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "She is the daughter of my brother." (The narrator says:) Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) had been made the brother of Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him); the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had established brotherhood between the two of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him): "You have the bond of wala' (clientship) with me and with this girl." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "You are my brother and my companion." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him): "You resemble me in outward appearance and in character. This girl will go to her maternal aunt."
Ahmad recorded it, and Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Artah, who is a mudallis.
