It is reported about a man of the Ansar that he brought a black slave girl and said: O Messenger of Allah! I am obliged to free a believing neck (that is, a male or female slave); if you consider this one to be a believer, then free her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the slave girl: Do you testify that there is no god but Allah Almighty? She replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? She said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you believe in being raised again after death? She said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the man): Free her.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I am obliged to free a neck (that is, a male or female slave), and I have a black, non-Arab slave girl. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bring her to me! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you testify that there is no god but Allah Almighty? She replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? She said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the man): Free her.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and al-Bazzar recorded it with two chains; the text of one of them is like this narration, and the text of the other has these words: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the slave girl: Where is Allah Almighty? She pointed with her hand towards the sky. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who am I? She said: You are the Messenger of Allah." Its chain contains a narrator, Sa'id bin Abi al-Marzuban, who is da'if (weak) and a mudallis, and he narrated it with 'an'anah; its chain also contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Abi Layla, who had a poor memory, though he has been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and with her was a black slave girl. The woman said: O Messenger of Allah! I am obliged to free a believing neck (that is, a male or female slave); will this one suffice? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the slave girl: Where is Allah Almighty? She replied: In the heaven. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who am I? She said: You are the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you testify that there is no god but Allah Almighty and that I am the Messenger of Allah? She replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you believe in what has come from Allah Almighty? She said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the woman): Free her! She is a believer.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Sa'id bin Anbasah, who is da'if (weak).

Awn bin Abdullah bin Utbah narrates: My father narrated to me this account from my grandfather: A woman came with her slave girl to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I am obliged to free a believing neck (that is, a male or female slave); will this one suffice on my behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who is your Lord? The slave girl said: My Lord is Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is your religion? She said: Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who am I? She said: You are the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? She said: Yes! I testify that you are the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you offer the five prayers? She said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you fast in Ramadan? She said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Do you affirm what has come from Allah Almighty? She said: Yes! The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck his blessed hand on her back and said: Free her! She will suffice on your behalf.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Other hadiths of this kind have been mentioned in the chapter on faith, and in the chapter on one who beats his slave, which came a little before this.
