Sayyiduna Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "May my father and mother be ransomed for you! I have seen a place for a market; if you would look at it (that would be good)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Very well." Then he got up and went with him until he came to the place of the market. When he saw the place, he liked it; he put his foot there and said, "Your market place is excellent; it shall not be diminished, nor shall any tax (kharaj) be imposed on it."
(Al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah recorded it without this wording.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, al-Hasan bin Ali bin al-Hasan Abu al-Hasan al-Barrad, and I have not found anyone who gives his biography.

Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Which part of the lands is the worst?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I do not know." Then, when Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him, he said, "Jibril, which part of the lands is the worst?" He replied, "I do not know; I will ask my Lord about it." The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) went away, and after as long as Allah willed, he came and said, "O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), you asked me which part of the lands is the worst, and I told you that I did not know. I asked my Lord which part of the lands is the worst, and He said: Their markets."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani (in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir) recorded it in this way.

Al-Bazzar recorded from Sayyiduna Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him): A man asked, "Which part of the lands is most beloved to Allah Almighty, and which part of the lands is most hateful to Allah Almighty?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I do not know; I will ask Jibril about it." When Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him, he told him that the most beloved places to Allah Almighty are the mosques, and the most hateful places to Allah Almighty are the markets. The narrators of Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar are the narrators of the Sahih, except Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil; he is hasan al-hadith (fair in hadith), and there is some criticism of him.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him), "Which part of the earth is best?" He replied, "I do not know." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Ask your Lord about it." Sayyiduna Jibril wept and said, "O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), is it for us to ask Him? He is the One who tells us whatever He wills." Then he ascended towards the sky, then came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "The best part of the earth is the houses of Allah on earth (i.e. the mosques)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "And which part of the earth is the worst?" He went again towards the sky, then returned and said, "The worst part of the earth is the markets."

Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not be the first person to enter the market, nor the last person to leave it, (for) in it (the market) Satan lays eggs and hatches young." In one narration the words are: "It is a battlefield." The narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are: "It is the resting place of Satan, and it is there that he plants his banner."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. In the first narration there is a narrator, al-Qasim bin Yazid; if he is al-Jarmi, then he is thiqah (trustworthy), and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. In the second narration there is a narrator, Yazid bin Sufyan, and he is da'if (weak).
