Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever fasts on the day of Arafah, it becomes an expiation for him for (the sins of) two years; and whoever fasts one day of Muharram receives, in return for each day's fast, the reward of fasting thirty days."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Haytham bin Habib, whom Imam al-Dhahabi declared da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Jundub bin Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "The most virtuous prayer after the obligatory prayer is the one performed in the middle of the night, and the most virtuous fasting after Ramadan is the fasting of the month of Allah Almighty which you call Muharram."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The author of al-Atraf attributed it to Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him), but I did not find this report in the copy I have; it is in al-Sunan al-Kubra.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever fasts three days in the sacred months, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the worship of sixty years is recorded for him."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from Ya'qub bin Musa al-Madani from Maslamah. The narrator Ya'qub is majhul (unknown), and the narrator Maslamah is Maslamah bin Rashid al-Himmani, about whom Abu Hatim said: He is mudtarib al-hadith (inconsistent in his narrations). Al-Azdi stated in al-Du'afa' that he is not to be relied upon as evidence, and he cited this hadith among his narrations. His father is Rashid bin Najih Abu Muhammad al-Himmani, from whom Imam Ibn Majah recorded narrations. Abu Hatim said: He is salih al-hadith (acceptable in hadith). Ibn Hibban mentioned him in the book al-Thiqat and stated that he sometimes made mistakes. Ibn al-Jawzi said: He is majhul (unknown), but it is not as he said, because Hammad bin Zayd, Abdullah bin al-Mubarak, Abu Nu'aym al-Fadl bin Dukayn and others narrated from him (and such a person cannot be unknown).
