Sayyiduna Ulbah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged giving charity. Sayyiduna Ulbah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! You have encouraged giving charity, and I have nothing but my honour; I declare it as charity for the one who wrongs me (that is, who reviles me or attacks my honour). The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from him. When the next day came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Where is Ulbah bin Zayd? (The narrator is in doubt; perhaps the words are:) Where is the one who gave his honour in charity? Allah Almighty has accepted it from him. Or he said words similar to this.
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Sulayman bin Masmul, and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Amr bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged giving charity. Sayyiduna Ulbah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have nothing but this honour of mine. He asked this two or three times. Then Sayyiduna Ulbah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You are the one who gave his honour in charity; Allah Almighty has accepted (it) from you.

Sayyiduna Abu Abs bin Jabr (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged giving zakah, Sayyiduna Ulbah bin Zayd al-Harithi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Allah! I have nothing that I can give in charity, except some pieces of wood on which a water-skin hangs, and a pillow stuffed with palm fibre. However, I give my honour in charity to whoever attacks it. The next morning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a caller, who announced: Where is the one who gave his honour in charity yesterday? He remained silent. The caller repeated the announcement two or perhaps three times. Then Sayyiduna Ulbah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, and when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at him, he said: O Abu Muhammad! Allah Almighty has accepted your charity.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Majid bin Muhammad bin Abi Abs, and he is da'if (weak).
