Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On Friday the angels sit at the doors of the mosques with scrolls, recording the names of the people. When the imam comes, the scrolls are rolled up." The narrator said: I said: O Sayyiduna Abu Umamah! Does the one who comes after the imam has come not have a Friday prayer? He said: He does, but he is not among those whose names are recorded in the scroll.
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, and Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Mubarak bin Fadalah, whom a group declared thiqah (trustworthy) and others declared da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When Friday comes, the devils go out and lead the people towards the markets, and these devils carry banners, while the angels sit at the doors of the mosques and record the names of the people according to their ranks (that is, the order of their arrival): who came first and who came after him, until the imam comes. Then whoever is near the imam, remains silent, listens attentively to the sermon and does nothing idle, receives two portions (kifl) of reward. Whoever is far from the imam, listens attentively to the sermon and does nothing idle, receives one portion of reward. Whoever is near the imam, engages in idle talk, does not remain silent and does not listen attentively to the sermon, incurs two portions of sin. And whoever is far from the imam, engages in idle talk, does not remain silent and does not listen attentively to the sermon either, incurs one portion of sin. Whoever says (to another person): Be quiet, has spoken, and whoever has spoken has no Friday prayer. Then he said: I heard your Prophet say it like this. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam Abu Dawud recorded part of this narration.
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, and its chain contains a narrator whose name has not been mentioned.

Abu Ubaydah said: Sayyiduna Abdullah said: Hasten to the Friday prayers, for every Friday Allah Almighty will appear before the people of Paradise upon a dune of camphor, and they will be near to Him in proportion to how early they used to go to the Friday prayer. Allah Almighty will bestow upon them an honour the like of which they had never seen before. Then, when they return to their families, they will tell them what favours and honours Allah Almighty has bestowed upon them. The narrator said: Once Sayyiduna Abdullah entered the mosque on a Friday, and two men had already arrived before him. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Two men have come before (and I am the third); if Allah wills, He will place blessing in the third as well. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: A hadith narrated from him has also been recorded by Imam Ibn Majah; it is a marfu' narration and is shorter than this.
