وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " تَقْعُدُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ الْمَسَاجِدِ فَيَكْتُبُونَ الْأَوَّلَ وَالثَّانِي وَالثَّالِثَ حَتَّى إِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ رَفَعَتِ الصُّحُفَ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ بِنَحْوِهِ وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ ثِقَاتٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "(On Friday) the angels sit at the doors of the mosques and record the names of those who come early, rank by rank, until the imam comes; then they lift up the scrolls."
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani, in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, recorded something similar to this. The narrators of Imam Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
