It is also reported from him that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed them that the surahs beginning with "the heavens" (al-Sama') be recited in the Isha prayer. Imam Ahmad recorded both of these narrations. The chain of both contains a narrator, Abu al-Muhazzim, whom Shu'bah, Ali bin al-Madini, Abu Zur'ah, Abu Hatim and Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) declared da'if (weak). Imam Ahmad said: How close (to acceptable) his hadith is!

Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'adh led his companions in the Isha prayer and recited Surah al-Qamar in it. Before he had finished, a man got up, prayed on his own and left. Sayyiduna Mu'adh spoke harsh words about him. The man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and presented his excuse before him. He submitted, "I had to work in a date-palm orchard, and I was worried about the water." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him)): "Recite Surah al-Shams (By the sun and its brightness) and surahs like it."
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Abd al-Rahman bin Yazid narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), while performing the Isha prayer, began reciting Surah al-Anfal. When he reached the verse "So excellent is the Protector and excellent is the Helper," he went into ruku' (bowing). Then in the second rak'ah he recited two surahs from among the Mufassal surahs. In one narration the wording is: He recited one surah from among the Mufassal surahs. Imam al-Tabarani recorded both narrations in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and the narrators of both have been declared trustworthy.
