Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: Previously, we used to pray behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and during the prayer we would look at the night and its darkness (that is, the sky).
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Abu Bakr al-Madani, who is majhul (unknown).

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When one of you is praying, he should not raise his gaze toward the sky, lest it (that is, his sight) be taken away."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not raise your gaze toward the sky, lest it be lost." The narrator says: That is, do not do so during the prayer.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "People will either desist from raising their gaze toward the sky (during the prayer), or their sight will be snatched away."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Abd al-Aziz bin Ubaydullah bin Hamzah, who is da'if (weak).

Ibrahim al-Nakha'i relates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a man during the prayer raising both hands toward the sky, supplicating during the prayer. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Perhaps his sight will be snatched away before it returns to him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Ibrahim al-Nakha'i did not hear from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
