Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When you come to the prayer, come to it with dignity and tranquillity. Pray whatever of it you catch, and make up (that is, perform afterwards) whatever you have missed."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat as a narration of Abu al-Sari from Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him). I have not found anyone who mentions him (that is, Abu al-Sari), and the rest of its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you come to the prayer, come in a state of calm. Pray whatever of it you catch, and make up afterwards whatever has already passed."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy. It is also narrated through another chain whose narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that its wording is: Hammad says: To my knowledge he narrated it as a marfu' hadith up to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once we were praying behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he heard the sound of people (hurrying) behind him. When he finished his prayer, he asked: What is the matter with you? They said: We were hurrying to the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not do that. Let each of you pray whatever of the prayer he catches, and complete afterwards whatever has already passed.
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. It is agreed upon (by Bukhari and Muslim) with the wording: "and whatever has already passed, complete it."

Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was walking with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we intended to go to the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was taking short steps. He asked: Do you know why I am taking short steps? I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The servant continues to be counted as being in prayer as long as he is in pursuit of the prayer." Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. In another narration from this Companion the words are: "I did this only so that my steps in pursuit of the prayer would be more."
Its chain contains al-Dahhak bin Nibras, who is da'if (weak). The author also recorded it as mawquf (stopping) at Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Thabit narrates: I was walking with Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Zawiyah when he heard the call to prayer. Then he began walking with short steps until I entered the mosque. Then he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once walked with me in this same way, and asked: O Thabit, do you know why I walked with you in this way? I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: So that the number of steps in pursuit of the prayer may be greater.
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and omitted Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), whereas Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated it from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him). And Allah knows best. Its chain contains al-Dahhak bin Nibras, who is da'if (weak).

Salamah bin Kuhayl narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was walking quickly to the prayer. He was asked about this, and he said: Is the prayer not the thing towards which one should hasten the most?
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; Salamah did not hear from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).

A man from the tribe of Tayy narrates from his father: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) set out for the mosque and began walking with quick steps. He was told: You are doing this, yet you yourself forbid it? He said: I intended to reach the start of the prayer and the opening takbir.
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator who is not named, as you can see. I say: Hadiths about walking to the prayer will come a few chapters later, if Allah wills.
